Nationals slam Mets with Heilman's Help

What started out as a good game quickly turned into a rancid pitching display by the Mets. I'm glad I was drifting in and out of sleep while watching this game tonight. Not seeing Heilman serve up the 3rd Grand slam surrendered by the Mets bull-pen made for a better nights sleep.

What is up with Heilman and Sosa? They absolutely suck this year. They've always had their bad games, but this is getting ridiculous. In all of MBL only 4 Grand slams have been hit this year. The Gopher Ball Bothers have given up 3 of the 4 !! Heilman needs to go. I've now come to believe that his personal feud with Omar and Willie is being brought to the mound. He wants to start, they won't let him, so I believe he's doing his best to force a trade. How else can his continued failures be explained? Unless he's hurt, I can't think of any other reason. Sosa, is a mystery. He seems to fall in love with his slider, and won't throw anything else. The hitters sit there waiting for on to drift over the plate, and then hammer it.

Perez did his normal Dr. Jeckle , Mr. Hyde routine. I don't understand what his problem is. He's like a little kid at times. Someone who gets bored with what's going on, and loses interest in the game. For the 1st 4 innings, he was good. He was fighting the strike zone, but was getting the hitters out. Then in the 5th, he does his Heilman imitation. He can't find the plate and gives up hits that cost him runs. Still, he left the game with the score tied, before Aaron came in and served up desert to the Nats. Willie and Omar need to do something to keep Ollie head on straight. He can be so overpowering, and so awful all in the same inning. Sometimes I wonder about Ollie's attention span. And it's times like last night's game that you have to wonder if he's worth investing $60-70 million into for the next 5 years.

The hitters didn't do us any favors last night either. Why do they always seem to let bad teams hang around? David is slumping, and Jose' is reverting back to his rookie year. All too often he's swinging at bad pitches and not getting into a hitters count. David I believe is the key to this offense. When he doesn't hit, the Mets don't win. Jose' is important too, but without David's power bat driving the ball, everyone else is being pitched around. As of last night, Ryan Church is the most consistent bat in the line-up. And he can't do it alone. Willie started on the right path by moving Delgado down the order, but more needs to be done to improve the offense. Beltran needs to hit better, David needs to get out of his slump, Jose' need to be more patient at the plate, and Castillo needs to get the ball out of the infield consistently.

The Braves are coming to Shea tonight, and I'm worried about this weekend. Chipper has been on fire, and he has a way of killing the Mets. With the Mets offense sputtering, the pitching will have to carry the team this weekend. The starters have been doing their jobs, but Willie's buddies in the pen have made life tough lately. As long Heilman and Sosa stay out of the games, the Mets stand a chance of winning. If they come into games, all bets are off.

In my best Simon Cowell voice: "That was utterly pathetic"

My favorite play from last night's game--Cassanova being so shocked that he hit that ball that he misses first base. That summed up our evening.

I don't think Heilman is throwing like shit on purpose. I think he just sucks that bad.

How about Harold Reynolds joining the SNY crew? I think it's about time they brought in someone without ties to the Mets. A guy made an interesting point on Rubin's blof this morning: Could Reynolds' arrival mean that Maz could be taking Willie's job soon? What are your thoughts?

I don't want Maz as a manager. All too often he agrees with Willie, and I don't like some of his comments on playing the game. He's another company yes man. I want a fire breathing ,take no prisoners, make no excuses person as a manager. In all honesty, someone like Bobby Valentin might be what this team needs. Look what he did with teams that were no where as talented as this team.

don't know if you guys ever listen to WFAN but they have willie on each wednesday at 5:05. each week he says virtually the same thing: i know my team. i talk to my guys more than any manager in the NL. and there is no need to panic, our big boys (delgado) will get going. this week they asked about how much he has used heilman and sosa, and whether heilman is still the 8th inning guy. his response is classic, stubborn, obstinate willie. basically he said that yes heilman is his guy in the 8th and though he has thrown a couple of bad pitches, he is throwing well. in regards to the amount of use, his response was that they are more effective the more they pitch. that they ask to get the ball as often as they do. WFAN's website has a link to the audio and you can listen to his entire interview if you haven't heard it, warning though, it is usually as frustrating as listening to his press conferences.

It just goes to prove my point about Witless Willie. He plays his buddies, not the best players. His job is to put the best team out on the field, not a team for his buddies to get playing time.

he also mentioned that he told delgado he was thinking of sitting him and giving him a rest. delgado responded by telling him not to because he was close and was seeing the ball well. willie listened to him, and well, we see how that has worked. yay willie!

I didn't say that I wanted Maz either. I was just throwing that out as a posibility.

One thing I was a little pissed about was when Delgado and Angel Hernandez had that small confrontation. Where was the manager at to back his player? If that would have happened to Chipper or Texeria, Bobby Cox would have flipped his god damn lid. Same goes for Charlie Manuel, Pinella or any other manager with a backbone. Does anyone else find it odd that, to my recollection, Willie has not been tossed from a game?

Also, does anyone else have a feeling that if we get swept by Atlanta this weekend that the shit will really hit the fan?

Willie has been tossed from games, but it's only been about 3 times in his managerial career. But he doesn't argue and back up his players. He'd rather cover for his buddies, and throw everyone else under the bus. Willie is too worried about being a castrated P.C. corporate GQ kind of guy. He has no spine, no gonads, no heart, no brain, and no future with this team.

I'm hoping for a 3 game sweep and to have Sosa and Heilman lose all the games. That way Witless Willie will be 2 stepd closer to the door.
