The 2009 Mets

In between cat naps on the couch I did manage to see most of the Mets game. A few things have become clear during this tortuous month of September. If the Mets don’t make the playoffs, the locker room needs a big makeover. Ever cense Cliff Floyd’s departure there hasn’t been a vocal veteran in the club house to shake up the players when needed. That means certain people need to go somewhere else.

As good as Delgado has been, he needs to go. He’s part of the leadership problem in the Clubhouse. Pedro, Heilman, Feliciano, Schoeneweis, Sanchez, Castro, Anderson, and Castillo all need to go too. Murphy should be the starting left fielder. Evans or Mark Texiera should be playing first. Robinson Cancel should be the back-up catcher, Argenis Reyes or someone else should be at second base. Santana, Pelfrey, Niese, Maine, and Parnell should be the starting 5 unless the Mets go after C.C. Sabathia. K-Rod should be closing, and Kunz should be setting up in the 8th inning. Smith, Stokes, Ayala, Muniz, Figgy should be in the pen. If the Mets can pick up a good left handed pitcher for the pen, then that would be helpfull. But this 2008 bull-pen crew can not be allowed in Citi-Field next year.

It may sound drastic, but I see no other way to take the rancid taste of 2007's defeat and the disappointments of 2008 from following the Mets into Citi-Field next year.

I agree that the mets roster should be imploded along with that shithole Shea. But I think that Delgado will be around for another year, and should be. He will be relatively cheap, and appears to have a lot left. Texeira isn't coming here, and evans is too overmatched to play every day. Murphy should play 2nd base at winter ball and give him a shot there. I would like to see beltran traded also. He is just too passive. throw a boatload of money at sabathia and krod, we need them both!

Dan, why haven't we seen you on the daily news blog? minj and his fellow yankee fans have been acting up and i am alone to duel with them. It appears that guinness has gone over to the dark side cause he avoids arguments and disagreements with them like the plague!

You guys are insane. There is no way the Mets don't or shouldn't pick up Delgado's contract. He was horrible at the beginning of the year but don't forget, he broke his wrist in the last game of 2007. Now that he's regained his form, he is more than worth a one year, $8,000,000 contract. As for Beltran, he's worth every penny. He makes everyone in the outfield better and is one of the best centerfielders in the game. His average is 5th among all of baseball for centerfielders and third in the league. He's third in all of baseball and first in the league in OBP for centerfielders. 4th in slugging for MLB and 2nd in the NL. He leads the league in homeruns for centerfielders and 3rd in all of baseball. He leads the league in RBIs and is second in the MLB only to Josh Hamilton. So say what you want but if you put the stats together, he's the best centerfielder in the NL and in the top 3 in all of baseball. Why the heck would you ever trade this guy?!?

Sorry KJM,
I've been having problems getting on the Daily News website. I keep getting kicked off when I try to load a page.
As far as Delgado goes, I still say he needs to go. The Mets need to move on and get new leadership in the locker room. David and Jose' will never become the leaders they need to be with Delgado there. I heard by more than 1 person in the post-game shows that there is no emotional leader there to shake people up and wake them up. David and Jose' could be those leaders, but neither will take the next step with someone like Carlos there. Everyone thought the world would end when the Mets canned George Foster, but life went on and the team survived. If Murphy can play 2nd base, I'd rather have Evans at first if the Mets don't go after Tex. If Murphy goes to 2nd, I want someone like Holiday in left. Add Fuentes to a pen with Kunz and K-Rod and no Heilman, Sanchez, Feliciano, or Schoeneweis, and the Mets win 15 more games next year.
