Well, I see the Mets decided to bring their "C" game last night. "C" as in curve ball. It's so fustrating when the Mets play like this. They have a chance to bury a team and strip them of all hope, and the Mets get blown out. Thereby setting the tone for the whole road trip.
First off, sending Lawrence packing shouldn't even be up for discussion. He clearly is over matched. If he pitches in Atlanta, Witless Willie should be drawn and quartered. There is no way Omar and Willie can say that Pelfrey or Humber would do any worse than Brian Low-Rents. The Mets want to bring Endy up, and Low-Rents gives them a chance to do that.
Secondly, what the heck is wrong with the Mets hitters? Haven't they ever seen a curve ball before? Last night's game was a perfect example of being too patient at the plate. When the Phillies decided to throw a fastball, the Mets needed to jump all over it. Trying to work the count, against pitchers that are throwing curve balls for strikes, is a losing game plan. But, what else would we expect from the Witless Wonder Willie?
I hope this is the one loss of the series. But with Tom Glavine pitching tonight, it doesn't bode well. I wonder if he has learned to throw the ball over the plate yet? Then again, with the strike zone last night, does the plate location matter? I thought David Wright was going to get tossed after his last strikeout. He rarely shows his displeasure with calls, but he clearly was p.o'd the last time. I'm hoping Glavine somehow pulls a rabbit out of his cap tonight.
I've seen a disturbing flaw in the Mets offense since last year. It's cost them too many games to count. If the Mets play a team with a pitcher with good breaking pitches, they're lost at the plate. Beltran standing at the plate against Wainwright, David Wells looking like the pitcher who threw a perfect game, last night's Phillie pitcher looking like the stud of the staff. It's disturbing and something that needs to be addressed. There's no excuse for it. Is Doc Gooden available to throw batting pactice? He had a great curve ball. Maybe he can become another special assistant?
Here's hoping for Glavine to see the light, and pitch like he was 25 again.

I see that David Wright actually did get tossed after striking out in the 9th inning. I must have been out of the room when that happened. I would have liked him to gone "George Brett" on Bucknor.
Why aren't umps removed from crews [between games] when they have clearly and repeatedly blown calls? With the whole NBA ref investigation, I'd think it would be easy for a MLB ump to determine the outcome of games and series too. And The Mets have surely been on the short end of too many bad calls this year.
