Mota and Heilman blow Maine's Effort

I hate Mota. John Maine once again put the Braves in their place, and Mota and Heilman blow it. I wouldn't miss either of them if they left the team in the off season. What Witless Willie was thinking when he brought Mota in with the bases loaded? Only Willie knows.

On a night when John Maine's future on the post season roster was being discussed & debated, he came thru in a big way. If not for another Beltran-Reyes sleepwalking effort in the field, he would have gone 7 innings and pitched a shutout. But a bloop hit doesn't get caught, and John loses his concentration which leads to walking in a run. He should have been out of the inning with 16 pitches thrown, and ends up throwing 34 pitches or so. That cost him an inning and a run.

Reyes regressed at the plate again. He has to keep hi swing level and stop swinging at pitches around his eyes. Gotay had a rough time also at the plate. But he made a great play by going deep into the hole and throwing out the runner. Anderson hit a bomb and Alou' extended his hitting streak to 17 games.

By beating the Braves and the Phillies getting blitzed by the Rockies, the division is now over. It would take a historic collapse for the Mets to lose the division now. My biggest disappointment is the lack of success the Bullpen has been having holding leads all year. Maine should have 17-19 wins this year. Perez should have 16-18wins. Glavine should have 16+ wins. And El Duque should have 13-15 wins also. And he's missed about 3 weeks of the season so far. That would be quite a record for a team where the starting pitching was said to be the weak link this season. Too bad the pen couldn't hold up their end of the deal.
